Labour Sunday Prayer 2022
Leader: Lord, you are the Lord of mercy.
You care about the sufferings of humankinds and listen to their cry. The pandemic strikes the economy and many people get unemployed and become causal workers. They have no job security and income protection. They become “self-employed” food delivery couriers. They enjoy no labour and occupational safety protection. They assume all the risks in order to feed their families. We pray for your protection that they are safe during work and can come home safely after work.
Hear our prayer, O Lord.
People: Lord, have your mercy.
Leader: Lord Jesus, you are friend of workers.
You worked hard to feed your family when you were in Nazareth. You uphold a belief that human labouring deserves a right reward which can afford the basic needs of one’s family. Today, the more food delivery couriers work, the less they can earn. It is not a right reward, nor a living wage that enables them to feed their families. We pray that the platform companies should value the efforts of the couriers and grant them right reward and protection.
Hear our prayer, O Lord.
People: Lord, have your mercy.
Leader: Holy Spirit, you are the Lord of solidarity.
You break down the barriers of location, gender, race, language, culture, social status, political orientation, faiths……etc. and gather together people from different places to be the Church. You demand that individuals should receive each other and empower people in the community so they can serve others and create a just and peaceful community. We pray for the solidarity among the food delivery couriers in Hong Kong. Both Chinese and ethnic minority groups can embrace each other and fight together for basic labour rights and protection.
Hear our prayer, O Lord.
People: Lord, have your mercy.
Leader: Holy Spirit, you are the Spirit of transformation.
We pray that you can lead and renew the Church to become a force to transform the city of Hong Kong in which “the year of the Lord's favour” can be fulfilled. Workers no longer become economic slaves and they do not need to owe debts due to the responsibility to feed their families. People of different ethnicities enjoy protection and construct together a society full of justice, mercy and peace.
Hear our prayer, O Lord.
People: Lord, have your mercy.
